For intensive production and maintenanceAugust 1st 2004
As part of a major plant upgrade, Alcan Packaging at Bridgenorth has invested half a million pounds over the last two years in seven advanced overhead cranes from Street Crane Company. Among the latest orders are four double girder cranes of five to 16t for intensive production use and one single girder five tonne crane for maintenance work. All production cranes have special coil grabs, inverter control on long and cross travel for handling stability, and also radio control for safety and convenience. The 16t unit in the separator and annealing bay is rated M7 for intensive use. This has a heavy duty TVX hoist for assured performance, along with approach alarms and special limit switches for safety. Early phases of the project saw the installation of two 16t double girder semi-goliath cranes. Fitted with ultra compact crabs, the cranes handle foil coils of 12 tonnes that are up to two metres in diameter. An automated load positioning system gives precise load location without coil damage.
