60,400m2 floor right first time
December 1st 2007

Installation of a 60,400m2 concrete floor at a new distribution centre in Buckinghamshire for John Lewis department stores has been completed on time and within budget to the design and under the supervision of Face Consultants (FACE).

John Lewis appointed FACE to ensure that the floor at the new DC was designed and installed to maximise efficiency and minimise maintenance in the future.

FACE first advised John Lewis on the floor requirements for the new warehouse, including issues such as floor flatness, to enable trucks to operate as efficiently as possible, and the position of floor joints.

For the 10,000m2 in and around the racking a floor to the latest Concrete Society TR34 DM1 standard was specified, while the Concrete Society FM2 Special standard was used for the rest of the building.

A 215mm-thick reinforced concrete floor slab was specified throughout, with saw-cut joints positioned to allow for mezzanines, highbay racking and sorting and packing facilities.
