concrete floor at a new
distribution centre in
Buckinghamshire for John
Lewis department stores has
been completed on time
and within budget to the
design and under the
supervision of Face
Consultants (FACE).
John Lewis appointed
FACE to ensure that the floor
at the new DC was designed
and installed to maximise
efficiency and minimise
maintenance in the future.
FACE first advised John
Lewis on the floor
requirements for the new
warehouse, including issues
such as floor flatness, to
enable trucks to operate as
efficiently as possible, and
the position of floor joints.
For the 10,000m2 in and
around the racking a floor to
the latest Concrete Society
TR34 DM1 standard was
specified, while the
Concrete Society FM2
Special standard was used
for the rest of the building.
A 215mm-thick reinforced
concrete floor slab was
specified throughout, with
saw-cut joints positioned to
allow for mezzanines, highbay
racking and sorting and
