Silo monitoring system launched
October 1st 2006

have introduced the UK's first silo monitoring system for the construction industry that will guarantee mortar supply and ensure that site personnel do not have to reorder stock.

It will also yield management information to help reduce waste and identify usage trends.

Developed by Avery Weigh-Tronix, the new system allows KingDrymix to take control of its customers' mortar supply by monitoring each silo's stock level remotely.

The silo is mounted on four load cells that send the fill level data to an indicator. A GSM modem provides two-way communication between the silo and head office – enabling KingDrymix to dial into sites at any time of day and plan its deliveries across a wide geographical area.

Operations co-ordinator for KingDrymix, Susan Kerr said: "All of our sites that have the monitors fitted are delighted at the freedom the system provides, since it needs no input from them.

"Being proactive is a massive bonus to our customers, as we advise when we will deliver and can adapt our transport scheduling easily to suit demand. Ultimately, both our customers and KingDrymix gain maximum efficiency."
