Keeping to convention can work June 1st 2008 Argos required a
development of its
Bridgwater warehouse
operation to increase its
throughput capacity to
support its distribution
network.
Keymas, which has
worked with Argos for over
17 years, recommended a
more conventional
warehouse arrangement for
cost effectiveness and
flexibility. The proposal
utilised conventional racking
and forklift trucks for
handling of pallets.
As 89 Argos stores rely on
the Bridgwater RDC to
receive customer orders, it
was not possible to close
down the premises. Keymas
had the task of changing
operations – from a crane
driven storage system to a
manually operated truck
storage system – turning the
flow through 90°, still
maintaining functionality of
the existing warehouse and
installing the new facilities.
Keymas co-ordinated the
removal of existing
equipment and staggered
de-commissioning of cranes.
The project also included decommissioning
a multi-level
pick mezzanine floor area,
of four individual levels
which had to be dismantled
in stages.
Keymas used existing
engineering suppliers and its
sister company Raxel for
storage and racking
solutions. Keymas had to
also oversee the installation
of a sprinkler system and
complete new lighting
facilities.
The project was completed
on time and within budget. More articles from Keymas Limited: |
