October 1st 2007 The UK Warehouse Association says its space brokerage service, Spacemart, is designed to capture demand for empty warehouse space
Finding temporary storage space –
particularly in the run up to busy
periods, such as Christmas, can be a
headache. Now, to help users of third party
warehousing services find the facilities they
need to store their goods on a short,
medium and long term basis, the United
Kingdom Warehousing Association has
launched Spacemart.
Spacemart is a warehouse storage space
brokerage service that take's UKWA
members' sites and exposes them to
companies that are looking for storage
space via a number of specialist websites.
Spacemart also acts as a matchmaking
facility for UKWA members to use as a
networking tool to help satisfy a customer's
needs when space is no longer available in
an existing warehouse. By working with
other members of UKWA, companies have
a relationship they can trust and the
capability to provide the required service.
"Finding demand to fill space,
particularly temporarily, is
almost impossible if
warehousing companies rely on
their own sales teams alone,"
says Roger Williams, chief
executive officer of UKWA. "For
companies looking for additional storage
space, finding a quality service provider in a
geographically appropriate area with free
pallet positions at the time they're needed
can also be less than straightforward. By
providing members with an outlet to
promote to their available space and giving
companies – be they retailers,
manufacturers, wholesalers or other 3PLs –
a web-based facility to find free and reliable
storage facilities, Spacemart is genuinely a
win-win proposition."
Advertising warehousing sites on
Spacemart is free to all UKWA members. It
is easy to do either on line via
www.ukwa.org.uk or
www.spacemart.co.uk. The same appliesfor
those seeking space.
Spacemart was launched on the UKWA
website just over six months ago and now
has 50 UKWA sites advertised. The UKWA
site is increasing in popularity – with an
average of 9000 page requests per month.
This continues to increase with the
development of the business model.
