Material for mezzanines
February 1st 2004

HDX heavy duty chipboard from wood-based panel products manufacturer, Egger (UK), is meeting the demand for industrial mezzanine flooring with superior strength qualities. Here we profile two of the companys recent high profile HDX applications Egger HDX chipboard has been specifically designed for industrial applications that require high load bearing qualities and a tough resilient floor. Manufactured to the highest standards to provide enhanced wear resistance, the product features a double chamfered tongue and groove profile for ease of installation. The product range provides value added solutions for all industrial flooring applications and includes HDX Protect with advanced abrasion and wear resistance combined with anti-slip properties, and HDX Class O, which provides a high resistance to fire. At Asdas new 40,000m2 distribution centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, HDX heavy duty chipboard has been specified as mezzanine flooring. Flooring contractor Greenstone Automation has installed over 23,000m2 of HDX P6/Class 0 foil reverse 38mm chipboard on site, which is capable of withstanding long term loading of up to 0.5 tonnes per square metre. The HDX has been laid across three mezzanine tiers within the distribution centre and has been double coated on the top surface with clear acrylic lacquer to provide additional durability. Terry McDermott, regional contracts sales manager at Jewson (national sales), Eggers London-based distributor that supplied product direct to site, said: HDX was specified because it is a quality board that can cope with heavy loading and withstand the demands of wheeled pallet trucks. Egger HDX, has also been specified as mezzanine flooring for another of the UKs largest distribution operations. 25,000m2 (18,000 panels) of Egger HDX has been installed by Link 51 at high street sports retailer JJB Sports recently opened 33,000m2 distribution centre in Wigan. The board has been installed across three floors within the warehouse complex. Kevin Mallinson, national sales manager at Link 51, said: HDX was specified because it provides a cost effective solution and a stable flooring system capable of coping with heavy loading and the demands of wheeled pallet trucks. Paul Bryant, national sales manager for Eggers industrial division, said: In the highly competitive industrial flooring market these contracts represent a major success for our HDX product range and reinforce our ability to provide a top quality product for high profile, technically demanding applications in uncompromising distribution operations.
