Straps and stretchwraps pallets automatically
August 1st 2007 Federal Mogul has invested
in equipment that can both
strap and stretchwrap
pallets ready for
transportation, reducing
cost and increasing safety
benefits.
The Twinpack, available
from Cyklop, both straps
and stretchwraps pallets
automatically, with
combined cycle times of less
than one minute achievable.
Strapping was previously
undertaken manually by
Federal Mogul staff, with
the loads then being
stretchwrapped by a semiautomatic
machine.
However, concerns over
the amount of manual
handling, and a
requirement for greater
speed, and enhanced load
securement led the
company to consider other
options.
The
polypropylene
straps are
automatically
fed, sealed and cut,
with tensions of up to
5000 Newtons achievable.
The pallet is then
stretchwrapped, using
Cyklop's patented
powerstretch system
(Ecostretch) which offers
prestretch tension of up to
300%. At Federal Mogul, the
machine is pit mounted,
meaning pallets can be
transported on and off the
turntable without the need
for either ramps or forklifts.
It currently straps over
1000 pallets each week,
with capacity available when
