Lidded crate designed for stability
December 1st 2003

Every week Aldipress distributes 4 to 5 million magazines to various shops. In order to improve working conditions, efficiency, capacity and quality, Aldipress has mechanised and automated much of its system. CurTec played an important role in this process. CurTec designed a new type of customised lidded crate especially to overcome stacking stability problems. Two hinged lids that are dovetailed to fit firmly together are mounted on the short sides of the crate. With a system of recesses on the bottom and matching studs on the lid, the crates interlock when stacked, giving stability. On the production line the magazine crates are filled automatically. At the beginning of the production line a crate is assigned to a specific customer and then filled by machine. Through the automation of the order pick stations the process has become less labour intensive. The improvements at Aldipress have doubled processing capacity.
