Management systems increase throughput
December 1st 2003

Intelligent truck guidance (SLS) and warehouse administration (LVS) systems from Still have been designed to integrate easily into existing logistics organisational structures, giving an increase in goods throughput of up to 40% of vital importance to retail, food manufacturing and other industries where timed production and deliveries are the norm. Each forklift or warehouse truck is connected to the system computer through a radio data terminal to allow individual orders to be passed on immediately the truck becomes available (ie. when it has completed its currently assigned task). Stock updating is dynamic. Paperless order picking and fewer errors are knock-on benefits. With SLS, tailor made guidance software optimises transport routes and co-ordinates truck operations matching the most suitable machine available to the task. This results in faster response and throughput, from goods-inwards, through stacking and retrieval, internal transportation and despatch. The LVS warehouse administration system maintains stock by location and part number and, in combination with the SLS truck guidance system, provides dynamic control of all goods movement. Data such as batch codes and shelf life can be factored into the software to ensure that the required stock rotation takes place.
