Vertical niches are safe bet August 1st 2009 Countax Automated Storage Systems has
installed two Cargo vertical lift modules
(VLM) for PEI-Genesis' production facility in
Southampton. PEI-Genesis assembles over 8
million connectors each year, all to the
highest military and industrial standards.
The two Cargo
VLMs have been
installed to store pick
and ship items,
without compromising
the standard racking
layout. By moving pick
and ship into
automated units, all
manual handling
issues are considerably
reduced, with no
bending down, no
stretching up, and all
products being
delivered to waist
level. As a result, the
installation of the two Cargo VLM units has
been welcomed by the company's Health
and Safety officer.
PEI-Genesis has already identified
considerable savings in term of picking
times, as the items had previously been
stored in traditional static racking, many of
which were difficult to locate, with resulting
pick speeds being incredibly slow. With the
new Cargo VLM units installed, average pick
times are now measured in seconds.
The installation of the two six metre
Cargo-Lifts, providing 50 off 4.1m x 0.9m
shelves, has also created additional space.
The pick and ship item storage had
previously covered a footprint of around
100m2, and this has now been reduced to
just 27m2. In addition, the Cargo biometric
security has allowed PEI-Genesis to monitor
every movement of every product, by
person, date and time. More articles from CARGO Automated Storage Systems: |
