BITO: 2009 the year of versatility February 1st 2009 Ed Hutchison, Managing
Director of BITO Storage
Systems says that versatility
will be the watchword for
storage and retrieval in 2009:
"Racking that allows a variety
of pallet, bin and container
configurations will play a key
role in providing that
versatility," he says.
He says an example of this
versatility is demonstrated by
BITO's PRO pallet racking
system, which employs Twin-
Top beams available in six
different heights ranging
from 95 to 170 mm and for
pallet loads of 600, 800 and
1 000 kg per pallet. The PRO
beams are constructed for
bay widths of 1,800, 2,700
and 3,600 mm.
As an option, the PRO
Racking's uprights can be
supplied with a slot pattern
to accommodate flow
shelves or to adjust pallet
seats. If the racking
installation is to be integrated
into a total logistics system or
for later upgrading into an
automated storage system,
round punchings allow for
the installation of roller tracks
and conveyors.
The bins and containers
used in a storage and retrieval
system also influence its
versatility.
The bin needs to be
durable so that it will not
create a bottleneck, and a
container that can be
customised at no extra cost
can be adapted to suit a
greater variety of SKUs.
Naturally, the firm says an
important step to ensuring
versatility is by seeking a
supplier that can provide the
entire storage 'hardware' for
these systems. More articles from BITO Storage Systems Ltd: |
