Shelving solution motoring after flood damage October 1st 2008 Link 51 has helped one of
the country's leading and
most valuable archives to
re-establish itself after a
highly damaging flood. The
installation, at the Heritage
Motor Centre in Gaydon,
Warwickshire, features a
combination of Link 51
shelving systems which
meet the diverse archive
storage needs of the site
and which also, through the
use of mobile shelving
systems, now helps the
institution make the most of
available floor space.
Water damage presented
major challenges for the
Archive. As the guardians of
much of the history of the
British motor industry with
Collections that include both
documents and film, the
Archive needed to bring its
storage and research
facilities back into use as
quickly and effectively as
possible after such a major
disaster. Prior to the
installation, it was
outgrowing the limited
amount of static shelving
available. The use of the
mobile shelving design
within the new layout has
minimised the footprint of
the floor area required,
allowing it to accommodate
the growing number of
archive documents and
photographic records.
Because only one access
aisle needs to be open at a
time – easily created using a
lightweight, ergonomicallydesigned
hand wheel – the
majority of the mobile
section can effectively be
kept in a closed position
with an obvious reduction in
floor area requirement. More articles from Link 51 (Storage Solutions) Ltd: |
