TNT installs SSI Schaefer mobile racking June 1st 2010 TNT's Archive Services division has
completed a SSI Schaefer's mobile
racking installation, accommodating
over 800,000 storage boxes.
TNT, responsible for transferring
documents, packets, parcels and
freight worldwide, has been operating
an archive storage facility at
Swadlincote, Derbyshire, for a
number of years, allowing public and
private sector companies the
opportunity to release space within
their own facilities resulting in
optimum space management for
future growth and expansion.
Following considerable company
expansion, including a 25 year
contract awarded to provide archive
services to the British Government,
SSI Schaefer was called in to discuss
storage capabilities that would keep
up with TNT's growing customer
base. SSI Schaefer's installation, as an
extension to the existing warehouse,
was agreed upon, allowing TNT to
hold over 800,000 storage boxes,
200,000 more than the existing
warehouse set-up would allow.
The system is designed to TNT's
specific requirements comprising 48
mobile racks and 13 levels of shelving
reaching a height of over 14 metres.
Each aisle is 1.5 metres wide, in order
to fully utilise the available space, in
which man-up trucks operate and
each mobile is complete with an
inboard sprinkler system and smoke
detection device.
Paul Sanders, national operations
manager of TNT Archive Services,
says: "We were delighted to have
awarded the contract to SSI Schaefer.
We needed a bespoke solution for our
archive extension that incorporated
the latest in fire suppressant
technology that would give us and
our customer's total peace of mind.
Schaefer have certainly met the
challenge and given us something
unique within the archiving and
storage sector."
SSI Schaefer's mobile racking
product manager John Dixon adds:
"SSI Schaefer's mobile racking system
has provided a significant increase in
box capacity." More articles from SSI Schaefer Ltd: |
