Benefits of made to measure racking solution

A made-to-measure tyre storage racking solution created by Planned Storage Systems (PSS) has proved to be so beneficial for one of its customers that their distribution centre is being extended.

Stapleton’s Tyre Services (STS) currently carries 30,000 tyres across some 2000 stock keeping units (SKUs) in its distribution centre in Crayford, Kent, but a new 180m2 extension means an extra 2000 tyres will be stored using a similar PSS racking system.

The extended unit will form a new commercial and agricultural operation to run in tandem with the existing wholesale, dealership and national account business.

The distribution centre currently houses PSS Stronglock racking as the main structure, with suspended walkways and picking aisles supported at two levels. Lift access allows tyres from all levels to be easily moved using specially designed trolleys that hold up to 30 tyres.

The ground level is used for fast turnover tyres, with the first floor housing the major brands and the second floor being used for specialist tyres and slow selling SKUs.
