Preventing disaster's a piece of cake August 1st 2007 A temporary building which
has served as a dessert
factory for the past 18
months after a fire destroyed
the original Aulds bakery
building is now being
dismantled. The firm's new
permanent bakery is now
ready to use and the Scottish
company has avoided
potential closure thanks to
the De Boer structure, which
has allowed 210 staff to keep
their jobs – and same
journeys to work – on the
same site as the old factory.
After the fire in October
2005, Aulds contacted De
Boer, which used one of its
modular Delta System
structures as the centrepiece,
creating space for facilities
including clean production
area, offices, cold storage
areas, laboratory and
kitchen. Assembled for use
in five weeks, the factory
was up and running again
just eight weeks after the
fire. It was also awarded an
A-rating by the European
Food Standards Inspection
