Integrated handling for optimum efficiency December 1st 2004 Specialist book wholesaler, Gardners Books, has optimised order fulfilment with the help of a handling scheme from Excel.
One of the largest single-site conveyor installations, over 200m of Excelvayor 500 UB Series is central to the overall efficiency of the order picking process, and combines with a bulk store and a goods-arrival store, also devised by Excel.
Excel has totally up-graded the materials handling system at the facility, placing books from various publishers into bulk store and moving ‘picked’ orders quickly and efficiently to packing stations for onward shipment to individual high street shops.
The main order picking area features an extensive conveyor installation that has zero line pressure to protect packaging, quieter operation with noise levels well below 65 dBa and higher operational speeds up to 90m/min for increased throughput.
Palletised items arriving at the bulk store are automatically fed, via a comprehensive pallet conveyor system incorporating both profile and weight check, onto a shuttle car and then carried to the appropriate crane pick-up point. More articles from Excel Automation Limited: |
