Small, delicate multi-media items sorted December 1st 2004 The Eurosort ESF 34 quad-tray sorter, available in the UK from Polymark GB, is at the heart of a highly efficient, compact, automated sortation process recently commissioned for one of Europe's premier multi-media retail outlets. Each tray can carry four different items each destined for a different drop-zone, making it particularly suitable for the small items being handled in this case, which include books and CDs.
The overall automated handling scheme, developed by DistriSort BV, has products arriving at the sorter on two conveyor in-feed lanes where they pass on to the quad-tray sorter. Items entering the 20,000 item capacity sorter are automatically monitored so software can control the discharge of the tray at the correct destination. Each quadrant of a tray opens automatically once the carrier has reached its destination, allowing items to drop down a chute ready for final packing and despatch.
