Flexibility for Argos October 1st 2007 Flowstore's new range of
Duraflow modular multiwheel
roller track sections
have provided a flexible
solution to storage needs
for Argos.
When the company
reviewed operations at its
Lutterworth site, it moved
high value products from a
mezzanine to a caged-off
security area within the
warehouse, with the
intention of maximising
floor space and pick
locations. Having used live
storage in the past, it was
familiar with the concept of
first-in, first-out picking
techniques and the way in
which stock lines can be
condensed into shorter pick
routes, speeding picking
and concentrating areas of
operation. This met the
company's project criteria,
providing both space saving
and handling efficiencies,
and improving supervision
of pick activities. Quick to
fit, the DuraFlow preassembled,
modular wheel
system has enabled Argos
to add a new dimension by
instantly converting pallet
racking to carton flowrack.
Roy Siggery, facilities
manager, says, "Virtually all
carton variations can be
accommodated without the
need for track and guide reconfiguration,
so inventory
change can be easily
managed.
"The changes have resulted
in increased warehousing
capacity, better inventory of
stock and provided 1600
pick locations. Having
reduced walking distances
and with sequential
picking, this will result in
order picking efficiencies
improving up to 10%." More articles from Flowstore Systems Plc: |
