Tri-Wall contains splinter problem April 1st 2005 A supplier of raw materials to the powder metallurgy industry packs 1,000-1600kg of product in flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC) shrink-wrapped to pallets.
The bags were prone to damage from sharp edges such as nails and splinters found on the pallets. In addition customers were experiencing occasional contamination problems from wood dust and particles from the base of the bags.
DS Smith Tri-Wall says its solution is simple, practical and cost effective. A high performance triple fluted tray was designed so that during make-up four ‘feet’ drop down from each corner – which are used to locate the tray on the pallet, forming a secure retaining area for the base of the FIBC, for filling, storage and transit.
The trays are made up and secured with tape to eliminate any concern for bag abrasion from the more normal staple fixing.
Equally the three fluted corrugated tray with a heavyweight kraft outer liner is sufficiently resilient to eliminate the potential danger from pallet abrasion and prevent contamination problems from wood dust and particles from the base of the bags. More articles from DS Smith Packaging: |
