Pakawaste recycles Coke’s packaging
August 1st 2005

Coca Cola has purchased Pakawaste machines to recycling its aluminium cans and pet bottles.

Coca Cola Bottlers in Northern Ireland needed to dispose of its out of date cans and PET bottles – but in some cases they were part filled with liquid. Pakawaste overcame this installing four Extractpacks, which it claims is the first baler of its kind to combine baling and draining out of date beverage containers in one step.

Robust and easy to clean, the machines extract the liquid contents and simultaneously bale the containers, either aluminium cans or PET bottles. All the liquid residue is contained in the specially designed collection tray and is then gravity fed into the treatment system.

The bale weights of PET bottles vary depending on density but the average is 120kg. For aluminium cans the average weight is 80kg.
