Cost effective racking solution October 1st 2005 One of the UK’s leading healthcare companies has extended its warehouse facility by 50,000ft2. Linpac Storage Systems was awarded the contract by systems integrator, Swisslog, to design, manufacture and install pallet racking for an automated storage and wide aisle system.
To provide the most cost effective storage solution Linpac designed three pallet wide bays for the automated and wide aisle racking. The bays accommodate product on Euro pallets which are 200mm narrower than conventional pallets.
Used for fast moving products, the automated facility has four levels of double deep racking up to 10m high, accessed by a Swisslog automated crane.
To facilitate racking entry for the crane, the beams for the back pallet location are located 150mm higher than those at the front. Anticollapse mesh fencing at each end of the automated racking restricts personnel entry into the area.
Slower moving products are located in the wide aisle racking system built to store 3600 pallets on five levels.
There is a total of 240 bays of stock, retrieved by reach trucks. To prevent accidental damage by the trucks, LINPAC has installed aisle protectors at each run end.
Steve Madden of Swisslog stated, "Within a tight time scale the project targets were accomplished through hard work and dedication of all concerned and LINPAC was considered a valued team player in achieving these goals." More articles from Linpac Storage Systems Limited: |
