Flexible for future changes
April 1st 2004

Replacing several storage premises with a purpose-built unit, Couzens Storage Solutions has recently completed a fully equipped storage and handling facility for Millipores pharmaceutical filtration equipment factory in Gloucester. A carefully selected mix of automated carousels and conventional equipment means that the facility can be extended or modified at any time.

Equipment includes a vertical carousel and Modula Lift System, alongside conventional pallet racking, shelving, archive storage, bins and work benches all supplied by Couzens. If demands change or business increases, it will be simple to either re-arrange or replace some racking with high density storage carousels, or install a mezzanine, which could add 40% more space.

The Intertex Euromat carousel supplied uses twin motor drives, ensuring the lifting and rotating mechanism continues to operate and stop in the correct position, even when the unit is unevenly loaded. Providing 153m2 storage in a 8.8m2 footprint, it has 72 storage levels each measuring 3.55 x 0.6m. It contains some 6000 small part lines.

For heavier items, the Modula Lift System uses an internal lifting platform to access trays and drive them to the picking face. Each tray can hold 500kg and photo-electric cells are used to automatically select the most suitable location for maximum storage efficiency.
