SDI’s space exploration April 1st 2005 SDI Greenstone has created 18 per cent more storage capacity at the Rugby distribution centre operated by Wincanton Logistics for Woolworths. Acting in a project management capacity, SDI installed additional racking and reconfigured the existing installation to increase storage capacity from 27,000m3 to 32,000m3, providing more than 8,000 additional racked pallet locations. The DC comprises two warehouse chambers where much of the stock (palletised items as diverse as barbeques and Christmas trees) was block-stacked on the floor – which was unsuitable for Woolworths’ requirements.
In one of the warehouse chambers, SDI has now created eleven aisles of 10m, six-bay-high racking. In the second chamber, as well as building in six more aisles and adding an extra ‘step out’ exploration tier at the end of some aisles, increased storage capacity has been achieved by ‘bolting on’ an additional level to the existing racking.
The racking was sourced from Linpac, who contracted a specialist Spanish company to handle the complex upper level installation.
The entire operation was complete a week ahead of schedule, according to SDI. More articles from SDI Group UK Ltd: |
