Storage density and efficiency maximised August 1st 2004 An extra 7000 pallet locations have been created at Holland & Barretts Burton-on-Trent storage and distribution centre with the installation of a Hi-Lo Premierack storage system. Installed in a new 4500m2 warehouse extension, the storage system will help improve Holland & Barretts warehouse stockholding, which is needed to meet growing demand.
Undertaken as a joint partnership between Hi-Lo Storage Systems and its distributor, J.K. Systems, the Premierack narrow aisle racking was chosen to maximise storage density and efficiency while providing 100% accessibility to individual pallets. The narrow aisle configuration will be accessed by six Bendi trucks and will be used to support Holland & Barretts 24/7 warehousing operation.
To kick off the installation, Hi-Lo and J.K. Systems conducted an in-depth survey of the site and then submitted detailed CAD drawings to Holland & Barrett. To cater for both picking and live storage, Hi-Lo Storage Systems suggested a Premierack system comprising of eight levels of racking made up of 9250mm high x 900mm deep frames with 2700mm long, 2000kg capacity beams.
Now, together with the original warehouse facility, the site is able to accommodate a total of 16,000 pallet locations to cater for a throughput of goods amounting to 1200 pallets per week with 50% of the pallets broken down for picking. More articles from HiLo-PSS Group: |
