Storage of oversized boxes February 1st 2006 Spaceway South has fitted out Internet based sports equipment company, Wiggle's new 2800m2 building, comprising 2400m2 of warehousing and 400m2 of office space.
Wiggle is the only Internet based company that supplies fully assembled mountain and racing cycles. As the cycles are despatched in custom oversized boxes, Spaceway South needed to provide for the storage and despatch of these large items within its design.
The warehouse encompasses mezzanine floors, conveyor systems, walkways, a bike assembly area and processing department. It has been planned for maximum picking efficiency and to cater for expansion as volumes increase.
To make maximum use of the headroom in the warehouse area, one two-tier mezzanine and one singletier mezzanine have been installed to provide a total working area of 7000m2, accommodating the multitier pallet racking system.
The packaging and despatch areas contain an Interfloor reversible conveyor system and with a flexible "expandaveyor" and integrated conveyor and racking system.
The racking layout has been devised to provide varying shelving configurations on the second floor and to accommodate large boxed items. Specially designed pallet gates enable the large cycle despatch cartons to be transferred to the transit area. Expansion capabilities have also been designed into the system.
