New material for increased scanning distances
February 1st 2006

Warehouse identification specialist, ASG Services, has added a new material to its range to increase scanning distances.

According to the company, forklift operators often have difficulty scanning labels which are either out of reach or damaged. As a result many reach out of the vehicle to gain a scan, raising concerns for health and safety. As well as reducing risk, the new product also improves efficiency as the operator can scan quickly and move on.

In facilities where identification products cannot be installed on racking, suspended signs requiring no ongoing maintenance can be used with ASG's retroreflective material so a barcode can be applied and scanned at distance.

The material can be used with regular identification products, enhancing their effectiveness and improving productivity.

In tests carried out by ASG using a standard long range scanner, barcodes printed on retroreflective material were scanned at 16.6m, where barcodes printed on white gloss polyester material only achieved 7.2m with all factors being consistent.
