Encouraging businesses to take a more responsible attitude towards recycling their unused plastic pallets and boxes is something Goplasticpallets.com is extremely passionate about. MD, Jim Hardisty, explains why.
Reducing plastic waste has been a hot topic in the UK media for over a year now – ever since the BBC first aired David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II exposing the destructive effect single-use plastic is having on our environment.
Both UK government and businesses have been compelled to take action. As a result initiatives to reduce or eliminate the consumption of single-use plastic are gaining momentum.
In his Autumn Budget, Chancellor Philip Hammond confirmed that a new tax would be introduced from 1 April 2022 on produced or imported plastic packaging that does not include at least 30% recycled plastic. The Budget also outlined plans for a £20 million investment to tackle plastics and boost recycling, including research and development into new packaging materials and smarter plastic packaging waste management.
This was swiftly followed last October by 250 major brands vowing to eliminate all single-use plastics from their operations and invest in new technology so all packaging could be recycled by 2025 – a move described by the United Nations as the most ambitious effort yet to fight plastic pollution.
At Goplasticpallets.com, we are proving that we are a step ahead of these major brands and leading the way in recycling plastic waste, by not only supplying the UK’s largest range of multi-use, recyclable plastic pallets and boxes, but also by committing to ensure they are ethically recycled at the end of their long use.
Recycling with Goplasticpallets.com
Our plastic pallets and boxes are designed to last for many years, but when they reach the end of their long working life, or customers no longer have a need for them, Goplasticpallets.com can ensure that they are responsibly recycled with minimal impact on the environment.
Depending on the volume of plastic pallets and boxes that customers wish to recycle, they can choose from one of our two recycling solutions. For volumes in excess of 1500kg, customers can take advantage of our hassle-free collection service, where we will arrange a collection and transport the products straight to our partner’s recycling facility in Belgium; customers can arrange for smaller loads to be dropped off at our warehouse at their own convenience, where once consolidated we will transport in full truck loads to Belgium – ensuring our trucks are running at their maximum efficiency.
Our partner’s recycling factory in Belgium is one of only three in Europe with a pallet recycling facility adjacent to the manufacturing plant, and is the closet one to the UK. By recycling our customers’ plastic pallets and boxes in Belgium we guarantee that they will not only be ethically recycled by a fully licensed facility, but also that the recovered material will be reused to make the next wave of high standard, long life plastic pallets and boxes.
Just last month, we pledged to recycle every plastic pallet and plastic box we supply to our customers. Why? Because we care about our customers; we care about our service; and we care about our environment.
Our new strapline ‘The Responsible Plastic Pallet Company’ encapsulates our company mission – to help create more sustainable supply chains by providing long-lasting, reusable plastic pallets and boxes, and ensuring they are responsibly recycled when customers no longer need them.
Our promise is our word. We guarantee to take full responsibility for recycling each and every plastic pallet and box we supply to our customers. And, not only that, but we intend to make it as simple as possible for customers of all sizes to recycle their plastic pallets and boxes by offering both ‘drop off’ and ‘collection’ options.
Each customer that purchases plastic pallets and boxes from us will receive a certificate – our recycling commitment – this reinforces the responsible attitude we have towards recycling our products.
As The Responsible Plastic Pallet Company, our ultimate goal is to be recognised as the most trusted supplier of long lasting, recyclable plastic pallets and boxes in the UK.
Last year the Environment Agency certified Goplasticpallets.com as an Accredited Exporter of plastic packaging waste. Just one year on, we have set ourselves the ambitious target of recycling 350 tonnes of plastic waste from customers’ used plastic pallets and boxes by the end of 2019.
Currently 96% of the plastic pallets we supply are made from recycled materials. Just 4% are produced from virgin material which is recommended for ultra-hygienic environments, for instance some food and pharmaceutical products.
