Safety barrier manufacturer, A-Safe go that extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction and due to the unique nature of its polymer-based plastic barriers the team can create bespoke systems to solve a customer's dilemma.

This was exactly the case when Cadbury's Drinking Powders factory at Chirk, Wrexham, posed the problem that its safety barriers needed to be redesigned to eliminate the cross contamination of powders.

Cadbury's had agreed for A-Safe to install its standard barrier system throughout the site to improve the site's pedestrian and vehicle segregation. However, whilst the barriers meet stringent food and hygiene standards, the gaps within the system were posing a problem as they can harbour the powder that is produced and contaminate the site.

Following close discussions with the Health & Safety team at Cadbury's A-Safe has developed a bespoke rubber gasket to seal all gaps so that all barriers are now 100% sealed unit and are currently on trial at the factory.

Director at A-Safe, James Smith explained: “The beauty of A-Safe's products is that there are very few applications that we cannot provide a system for. We work closely with our clients to ensure that what we provide is fit for purpose and if needs be we will design and create a new product so that it does.

“With Cadbury's, something as simple as gaps in the barrier poses a potentially serious health & safety issue with cross contamination of powders. However we were quick to react with a solution to make sure that the site has the best safety protection whilst adhering to the strict food and hygiene rules as well.”

A-Safe work with many clients within the food manufacturing industry as its barrier systems are ideal to work within the rigorous food and hygiene legislation. All the materials that make the plastic barrier systems are food approved and are easy to maintain as they are wiped clean with ease and do not rust or erode over time. Some of the other clients that A-Safe work with include:

Mars Chocolate, Mars Petcare, Weetabix, Haribo, Fox's Biscuits, GSK, Highland Spring Water, Fuller's Brewery, Scottish & Newcastle, Coca-Cola and Manor Bakeries.
