As well as providing a top class networking event at a prestigious location in London's West End, the UKWA Awards 2010 rewarded excellence in the warehousing sector

The achievements of companies and individuals across the warehousing and third party logistics (3PL) sectors were recognised at UKWA's Annual Awards for Warehousing 2010 ceremony, which was held recently at London's Dorchester Hotel.

Over 450 members and guests attended, with CEO Roger Williams saying:“UKWA's Awards are established as symbols of achievement in the 3PL sector and emphasise the importance of logistics within today's economy. The high number and quality of the entries we received underlines the professionalism that runs through the modern logistics industry.”

This year the Association received a record number of entries in all categories and the winners were chosen by UKWA's Awards Committee, which comprised Phil Culling, md of storage systems specialist Redirack; Mel Grainger, a past chairman of UKWA; and Roger Williams.

A total of nine awards were presented and the winners were: Best New UKWA Member Award:White Arrow Logistics Ltd White Arrow impressed the judges with a thoroughly professional approach.

Environment Award: NYK Logistics UK Ltd NYK Logistics UK Ltd has been at the forefront of environmental initiatives.

Technology and Innovation: Briggs Equipment Briggs' Speedshield system is an intelligent asset management tool which gives customers full control of their fleet.

Training Award: Systems Training Systems Training's submission described a training project designed to reduce fuel consumption and accident rates. Team of the Year:Wincanton Group Ltd

The Wincanton DSE site in Yeovil serves Augusta Westland Helicopters and provides a support service involving the receipt, inspection, storage, issue, design, packaging and export of both Ministry of Defence and Military Export helicopters.

Customer Service Award: Bibby Distribution Ltd and MDA Ltd - joint winners Bibby Distribution worked in partnership with Toyota to provide Toyota's customers with an exceptional offering.

MDA Ltd has successfully attracted a succession of major clients by demonstrating a strong client-centric culture.

Employee of the Year: Bob Steward, EDF Energy As a result of performance management processes introduced by Bob Steward, the logistics operation has become up to 30 per cent more cost efficient.

Warehouse Manager of the Year Award: Stephen Steenson, The Malcolm Group

Since his appointment Malcolm has proved a strong leader with a hands on approach and first class communication skills. Chairman's Award: David Williams,Great Bear Distribution Since its launch Great Bear has grown to become a leading third party logistics company. Still independently owned, it is respected for its innovative solutions.
