Dickies has announced John Stone, from Westerham in Kent, as the inaugural UK Worker of the Year.

The workwear expert launched the feel-good initiative to recognise excellence in the British work force in April. At a gala awards ceremony at Pinewood Film Studios, John Stone was honoured for his work in helping save lives as a fire protection engineer in Kent.

Runner up in the UK-wide competition is mobile vehicle body repair specialist, Andy Rose from Reading - who was also voted the first 'People's Choice' winner, the monthly award run in conjunction with the main competition.

The panel of judges included TV presenter Quentin Willson, Coronation Street actress, Kate Anthony and Dickies European sales and marketing director,Maurice Morton.

"The majority of entries really exemplified what we were looking for in the search for the UK's Worker of the Year," explains Quentin Willson.

"When we actually met the finalists, we were extremely impressed by all of them and they made choosing a winner no small task."
