12 December 2012
Howard Tenens and Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) were delighted to host a visit by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Mike Penning MP, to the CCE sustainable warehouse at Voltaic in Dagenham, which will service the Olympic Park during 2012.
The opening coincided with Minister's visit to Howard Tenens' gas refuelling station at South Ockendon from where he hitched a ride in the dual fuel (gas/diesel) HGV to the Coca-Cola warehouse at Voltaic.
He spent the afternoon hearing about both Howard Tenens and CCE's sustainability plans for transport and the impact for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Following a guided tour of the 233,000 sq ft warehouse, which has a number of sustainable features including a ground source heat pump to provide heating and cooling systems, solar photovoltaic cells generating electricity, 15% skylights providing natural light reducing electricity usage, eco-friendly motion-sensored lighting and rain water harvesting, the Minister officially opened the building.
Wendy Manning, customer logistics director at CCE said: “We have a clear vision of the kind of sustainable business we want to be in the future and we have set challenging goals to achieve this.
“We will deliver our CSR commitments while inspiring others around us to build a more sustainable tomorrow and we will use the inspiration and excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to accelerate those changes.
“Howard Tenens is at the forefront of low carbon transport and they have trialled dual fuel (gas/diesel) vehicles for us as well as sourcing and managing the Voltaic sustainable warehouse and we are pleased to be working with a company whose sustainable ethos is a good match for CCE.â€
Catherine Crouch, group environment director for Howard Tenens added: “As a supply chain partner we are working closely with CCE to assist them reduce the environmental impact of their supply chain. Sustainability is core to Howard Tenens strategy and both the Voltaic warehouse and dual fuel vehicles are examples of this in action.â€
