GNB Industrial Power, a division of Exide Technologies, will be showing its new high-power, lead-acid battery - TENSOR - for the first time in the UK at IMHX.

GNB Industrial Power will use IMHX to debut its new highpower, lead-acid battery - TENSOR - in the UK.

This new product is aimed at meeting the increasing demands placed on today's trucks and the environments in which they operate. The high performance TENSOR battery is the answer to these growing challenges as well as providing the energy efficiency required by many companies, says GNB. TENSOR is said to be ideal for use in heavy-duty applications, cold-storage environments, high-rack facilities, accessory equipment and 24/7 applications.

The core benefits of TENSOR over a conventional motive power battery are increases in performance, capacity and energy efficiency. The improved performance is a result of its high-power density, while the battery's high energy content and efficient energy recovery help to increase its running times. TENSOR also has a significantly lower operating temperature than other batteries, thus extending its operational life. Together these benefits ensure a decrease in energy costs and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

"The R&D process for TENSOR started in 2007, when we received a number of requests from truck manufacturers for a battery that offers a performance above and beyond the available standard batteries. This led to a first-generation high-power cell in 2008," explains Dr Kai Ruth, European Product Manager, Motive Power. "The excellent properties of this experimental battery, the knowledge we already had in producing high-power batteries especially for submarines, and feedback from customers, encouraged us to further develop and finally launch TENSOR the next-generation lead acid battery which can be used in even the most extreme conditions.

"Depending on the application and operating conditions, TENSOR shows an 18 percent increase in truck running time when compared to a conventional traction battery and the availability of the truck can be further increased by fast (opportunity) charging the battery.

Ultimately, this is what most companies look for when buying a battery," concludes Dr Kai Ruth.
