Doors for 24 hour operation

09 March 2015

Parcel carrier takes on 17 Stertil doors in major refurbishment. Doors include insulated models and high speed versions.

An installation of 17 Stertil doors ensures efficient loading and unloading of a range of road vehicles for one of the UK’s leading parcels carriers at the company’s newly refurbished warehouse in Park Royal, London.

The carrier recently acquired the warehouse, which was built approximately 20 years ago, to streamline the company’s operations on behalf of customers located in London and the South East. During a typical day, around 150 vehicles arrive at the warehouse to deliver and collect a variety of parcels, packages, small boxes and flyer bags containing documents.

These vehicles, which are loaded and off loaded throughout a 24 hour working day, comprise a range of vans and trucks of differing sizes and heights. It was important, therefore, that the Stertil doors specified for the warehouse could safely and efficiently accommodate this diversity.

Supplied by Stertil Door Products, a total of 17 doors have been installed within various loading bays at the warehouse. These include 15 Thermadoor insulated sectional overhead doors plus a pair of Stertil’s recently-launched FlexiEdge fast-acting industrial doors.

"It was important the Stertil doors could safely and efficiently accommodate a diverse range of vans and trucks of differing sizes and heights.”

The Stertil doors operate in conjunction with an installation of conveyors to support the warehouse which features on ‘open’ layout for maximum flexibility. Subdivision of the warehouse into different operating areas has been achieved by positioning the conveyors to suit different items and throughputs. To help meet the required workflow within the warehouse, 13 of the doors are dedicated for van use while, of the remaining four doors, two are used to support deliveries and collection by larger trucks.

Thermadoor insulated sectional overhead doors offer a range of features and benefits including a choice of insulation levels, powered or manual operation depending on the application plus a range of track configurations to suit different building layouts and available headroom.

The new FlexiEdge range comprises 16 models of many different types and styles including internal and external doors, all-weather doors, cleanroom and freezer/coldroom doors plus emergency exit doors incorporating breakthrough curtains. Standard models are available in widths up to 11 metres and heights of 5.5 metres while bespoke and special sizes may be specified.
