Plastic Robot Brexit at the PPMA Show

03 August 2018

Regulations on plastics, robotics and Brexit are among the issues to be discussed by expert speakers at the PPMA Show from 25-27 September at the NEC.

The exhibition also gives visitors the opportunity to interact with hundreds of exhibitors and see working machinery in action. The PPMA Show will showcase smart manufacturing and innovations in processing technology and packaging machinery, aimed at increasing efficiencies and enhancing business performance.

Among other highlights will be a discussion on proposed new regulations coming from both DEFRA & Brussels and the likely impact on the FMCG market’s use of Plastics. Coca-Cola European Partners, RPC, BPF and more will participate in the debate.

The keynote address will focus on How to Brexit-proof your business, and will be delivered by Lord Mark Price, former Minister of State for Trade and Investment, who will bring his years of experience as MD of Waitrose and deputy chairman of the John Lewis Partnership to the podium.

Alexandre Flory, OEM sales manager, Schneider Electric will present on the use of smart technologies and robotics for packing optimisation.

A fun feature will give visitors the opportunity to beat a basketball playing robot. This takes place at the Enterprise Zone feature area and will see Comau’s racer robot shoot some hoops. Or, if you’re a talented basketball player, why not show off your skills and see if you can beat the robot at its own game.

Last year’s PPMA Show featured Omron's ‘Beat the robot goalkeeper’ football game, which proved very popular indeed. If the basketball game is even half as good, it will be a big hit.

Bright ideas

A new initiative for PPMA Show visitors this year is the Bright Ideas - Ambassador Programme - a free advice service for start-up ventures and entrepreneurs.

It will be located in the Enterprise Zone on the exhibition floor. First-time show visitors to the processing and packaging machinery industry, or for those investigating specific products and services, will be matched with specialist knowledge experts who will offer advice, guidance and information.

Show director, Richard Little, is the driving force behind the programme, which was introduced in response to visitor feedback highlighting the significance of the event for offering such a diverse range of technologies and solutions for industry newcomers.

Richard explains: "The PPMA Show offers the best possible opportunity for newcomers to learn, experience and discover innovative and business-changing solutions. Therefore, it seemed logical for us to harness all the expertise, knowledge and technical know-how present, to help those that are exploring processing and packaging solutions for the first time. It's a great way to facilitate meaningful introductions and hopefully inspire and create ongoing partnerships going forward."

The PPMA Group Industry Awards, which recognise manufacturing excellence, technical innovation, entrepreneurship as well as outstanding achievement and contribution to the industry, will this year take place at a new venue - the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel at the NEC - on the 25th September 2018.

Visitors seeking guidance to navigate all the show has to offer can visit a dedicated helpdesk in the Enterprise Zone for assistance. Meetings will be scheduled with the most relevant 'expert' to discuss specific requirements, explore potential solutions as well as network with other like-minded individuals.

"We want the PPMA Show to benefit those that know the industry and what they are looking for, as well as introduce first-time visitors to the right people and provide the opportunity to evaluate technologies and services to help support business growth," Richard added.

"It's often the discovery of something completely unexpected that can make all the difference and we want to ensure every one of our visitors has that unique opportunity to tap into the wealth of industry knowledge and technical expertise that we have under one roof.”
